Pitch Black + Dark Cloud:White Light = Epic

There is just over a month and a half to go till the Dark Cloud:White Light exhibition opens at the Pataka Art + Museum. And at this very moment, Joseph Michael’s time lapse creations are being matched with extraordinary soundtracks from some very well known New Zealand musicians and composers.

The impressive line up includes Michael Hodgson, one half of muso duo Pitch Black who carved a path through the New Zealand music scene with their electronica-inspired offerings and mind blowing live shows. As a fan of Hodgson’s work, Joseph is stoked to have him working on the soundscape for ‘A trip into the depths of Lake Marion’.

When it came to assigning the musicians to each art work, Joseph sent out the individual pieces and let each contributor choose the one they wanted – surprisingly there weren’t too many clashes! But Hodgson knew he had to have the Lake Marion piece as he had actually been to the remote location in the depths of Fiordland.

There is no question that Hodgson’s composition has added a new perspective to the time lapse imagery, and it has also had an effect on Joseph, who has some colour grade changes in mind for the piece.

Just released; A behind the scenes video of the Ngauruhoe shoot.
